What to Wear

OK, you have your boat, your rods, reels, and favorite lures, now what?

In addition to your tow vehicle, you probably have between $50,000-$100,000 tied up in your sport/hobby/passion. The last thing on your mind is your clothing, right? Wrong! This should be a major consideration once you view your apparel as equipment. I spend about 250 days a year on the water. Good weather, bad weather and everything in between. I have found that along with improvements in all of my tackle and boating equipment, clothing has gone high-tech as well. Forget about the old tee shirt that you have had since college, or even high school, it's time that you began looking at your personal comfort.

Fishing success and enjoyment are more easily attained when you are comfortable. You have enough to worry about battling the fish, so why worry about battling the elements too.

I have searched the clothing market for what I believe combines fashion and function and that company is WOOLRICH, Inc. Woolrich has been around since the early 1800's. The roots of this company are well grounded in the early pioneer spirit in this country. From it's humble beginnings in Pennsylvania to one of today's oldest textile factories in the country, Woolrich has combined function with comfort and durability. Woolrich has gone beyond wool in creating a new generation of quality fabrics joining craftsmanship with new technology.

Most baby-boomers recognize the Woolrich name from the college campus where it made a fashion statement. Woolrich products travel well, outfitting Admiral Byrd's 1939 Antarctica Expedition and as late as the 1970's Himalayan mountaineering expeditions under extreme conditions.

Today Woolrich continues to grow with clothing that offers function, comfort and durability.

To keep your cool in the summer and to stay warm in the winter, you need to wear 100% cotton, loose-fitting clothing. You can even get away with long sleeve shirts for most of the summer. This adds some UV protection. Woolrich even offers materials that provide at least UPF 15 rating for UV protection. I wear their shirts and pants. Their outdoor clothing is nice enough to wear out, and tough enough to wear outdoors. Ventilation and wicking are two features that offer year-round comfort.

Don't expect to find quality and function in clothing through a fishing catalog or a boat company. Check out the incredible line from the Original Outdoor Clothing Company, Woolrich a company that hasn't sold out to the "disposable" trends of today's fashion.
